Track Record Highlights
Fiscal Responsibility
I believe in being conscientious with every dollar while planning ahead to avoid bigger burdens later. That means supporting balanced budgets and predictable taxes, with small, timely adjustments when needed rather than large increases down the road.
It also means investing wisely in the people who serve our city. I have supported funding for police officers and critical staff — including appropriate salaries and benefits — to help Centerville retain experienced professionals who keep our community safe and services reliable.
Just as importantly, I ask tough questions and carefully vet every proposed budget increase, so that when fees or taxes must go up, I can defend those decisions as necessary, fair, and in the community’s long-term interest.
I approach city finances the same way I approach engineering: plan ahead, invest carefully, and build for the long term.
Infrastructure That Lasts
Centerville’s future depends on smart investment in infrastructure. As a licensed civil engineer with nearly 30 years of experience (25 as a licensed professional), I know the importance of building systems that work today and last for decades.
I have supported water fee adjustments and staff efforts to secure outside funding for major projects like the new water tank, which received a $1.5M federal grant covering 75% of its cost. These choices reduce the financial burden on residents while ensuring reliable service for generations.
During my tenure, I also made it a priority to strengthen drainage funding. Fees had not kept pace with the work required, and without proper funding, utility infrastructure under our streets cannot be replaced when road projects move forward. I supported a 50% adjustment to ensure Centerville has the funds to keep projects on track. This adjustment also corrected the system so that certain businesses now pay their fair share. While not an easy decision, it was the responsible one to keep Centerville’s infrastructure sustainable for the long term.
Infrastructure decisions are never simple, but I believe in asking the right questions, planning carefully, and choosing solutions that will stand the test of time.
Smart Growth
Centerville faces growth pressures that will shape our city for decades to come. I have advocated for updating the General Plan, knowing it is the community’s best tool to guide growth thoughtfully and protect the character of our neighborhoods. Just as importantly, I fought to extend survey deadlines and community input opportunities so residents who felt unheard had the chance to participate. Thoughtful growth only works when residents are truly part of the process.
Recreation, Arts, Parks & Trails
Centerville is defined not just by roads and pipes but by the places where we gather, play, and connect. During my term, we added pickleball courts and a new playground — projects residents had lobbied for passionately. By scrutinizing consultant estimates and cutting costs in half, we delivered these amenities affordably while still meeting community expectations.
I support continued investment in recreation, arts, parks, and trails because they enrich our daily lives, promote health, and strengthen community bonds.
